I received this from Luana Schneider just a little bit ago. If you can even only for a day please help out!
The Red Cross called late tonight and asked if we would have folks with Four Wheel Drive vehicles that would be able to help. They need people to get "assessment people" to areas. They need folks who have four wheel drive and experienced in using such vehicles They need these folks ASAP!! Ideally they would set up teams that could help for a stretch of at least the next five days. I told them that there very likely wouldn't be many if any people that could take off work for many days, but possibly some a day or two. They are willing to have folks help whenever they can. Also they need folks in many different areas so it is possible that you will be able to stay near your home and help. They will reimburse you for your gas. They apologized for the lack of notice, but as we both said almost at the same time....how do you give notice on a disaster!
If you think you can help even for a day(yes, even as soon as tomorrow,Saturday, send an e-mail to abasel@arcbadger.org even tonight yet and she (Amy) will call you in the morning. Emphasize your interest to help with you four wheel drive vehicle or they may misinterpret what you are willing to do. Or maybe you are interested in doing other things too--that's your choice. Please also let them know you are a member of your club and the Wisconsin Four Wheel Drive Association the Four Lakes so we get recognized as organized groups.
Hope some of you folks are up for this! I would be very interested to know who does this!!
